Our History

PXP Vietnam Asset Management was established in 2002 with a clear goal to create a Vietnam focused listed equity specialist investment manager, dedicated to achieving superior long-term returns and managed with the highest standards of professional integrity. PXP was the first equity specialist manager in Vietnam.

Our market positioning and investment process enable us to provide investors with high-conviction exposure to the highest quality Vietnamese companies.

From our office in Ho Chi Minh City, PXP is able to effectively utilise its team’s extensive local knowledge to identify and analyse investment opportunities.

BIOGRAPHY

Kevin co-founded PXP Vietnam Asset Management in 2002. He is responsible for investment policy and strategy and is the Portfolio Manager for PXP Vietnam Emerging Equity Fund and the segregated mandate. He has more than 30 years’ investment experience.

Kevin spent a decade in Hong Kong from 1985 to 1995 initially as an investment analyst and then as a specialist manager and trader of proprietary funds in emerging equity and equity derivatives markets in South East Asia. During that period, among other things, he established the Hong Kong equity derivatives business of Baring Securities and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell. On returning to the United Kingdom in 1995, Kevin worked for Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, where he was involved in Latin American and South East Asian sales trading, and then for Bear Stearns International, where he traded closed-end funds in global emerging markets. Later he established the Global Emerging Markets and Japan Investment Company activity of ABN Amro in London.

BIOGRAPHY

John Gavin was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of PXP Vietnam Asset Management in August 2008. His role includes responsibility for the statutory financial reporting of PXP Vietnam Fund and Vietnam Emerging Equity Fund, reporting to the Directors of the Funds, and overseeing the assets and transactions of the Funds. As Compliance Officer, John reviews the Funds compliance with their respective investment policies and restrictions, and ensures that all relevant stock exchange and regulatory reporting is performed. John is also responsible for preparing financial statements and budgets for PXP, and for the internal controls.

John trained as an accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in Birmingham, UK, from 1991 and moved to the London office of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he focused on public sector finance projects. He transferred to PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam in 1999 and was responsible for audits of multinational and Vietnamese companies and investment funds, as well as the roles of accounting technical specialist and risk management officer for the firm.

Lawrence Brader

BIOGRAPHY

Lawrence moved to Vietnam to join PXP as Assistant Portfolio Manager in January 2013. He is responsible for assisting the Portfolio Manager in all aspects relating to the management of PXP’s portfolios as well as marketing. He is a co-manager of PXP Vietnam Smaller Companies Fund.

Lawrence started his financial career in 2006 as a Corporate Finance analyst for Icelandic Bank Landsbanki in London, where he advised on a number of M&A and IPO transactions. In 2010 he moved to Hong Kong to join a fund management company as their Investment Analyst, and was responsible for the generation of investment ideas through quantitative and qualitative assessment of Asian clean-technology and water stocks. Following this Lawrence spent a year as a sell-side Equity Trader in Hong Kong.

Lawrence holds a Fund Management Certificate from the State Securities Commission of Vietnam.

Joelle Daumas-Snowball

BIOGRAPHY

Joelle began her career in a law firm in Strasbourg before joining Gide Loyrette Nouel in Paris. From 1995 to 2000 she was assigned as managing lawyer of the Hanoi branch in Vietnam advising foreign investors in joint venture transactions and mergers & acquisitions. Joelle then spent 18 months as in-house legal counsel to the Asian Development Bank in Manila, Philippines where her responsibilities included the bank’s private sector projects in Vietnam. In 2001 Joelle returned to Vietnam as a Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal Ho Chi Minh City before joining PXP in 2006 as Legal Counsel. She was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2010. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of PXP as well as providing legal advice covering regulatory, contractual and company law matters

Nguyen Ngoc Dao Chi

BIOGRAPHY

Chi joined PXP in 2006 as our second research department hire. She was appointed Head of Research: Non-Financials in 2012. Chi supervised the work of her team and was responsible for investment research in various sectors including agriculture, consumer, logistics, plastics & packaging, fisheries and basic materials.

In 2014 Chi was appointed Assistant Portfolio Manager and co-manages PXP Vietnam Smaller Companies Fund.

Chi has 9 years experience in finance and investment management in Vietnam. She previously worked at ACB Securities, a leading securities house in Vietnam.

Hoang Hong Hanh

Head of Back Office

BIOGRAPHY

Hoang Hong Hanh joined PXP’s Back Office team in 2007 and was promoted Head of Back Office in 2011. Hanh is responsible for the output of the Back Office which includes daily estimated NAVs, month-end reconciliations and reporting of month-end NAVs for PXP Vietnam Fund and Vietnam Emerging Equity Fund.

Hanh’s role also includes cash management, preparing cash flow forecasts and monitoring trade settlement and corporate actions. She manages the Back Office team and liaises with fund administrators, custodians, brokers and other service providers.

Nguyen Tam Trinh

BIOGRAPHY

Trinh joined PXP in 2006 as a junior fund administrator in the back office team. In 2007 she was transferred to the research department and was recently promoted to Associate Director in 2014. Trinh provides research and financial analysis on Vietnamese companies in the consumer sector.

Trinh has 10 years’ experience in finance and investment management. Prior to joining PXP she worked at GHP Far East Ltd a German company as a Finance Controller.
